Privacy Policy

Parlour is a website for two people to play games together. We've built it to need as little of your data as possible. There are no accounts and no sign-ups, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies. This page explains what little we do collect and why.
What we store on your device
To make the site work we keep a few things in your browser's local storage — on your device, not a tracking profile:
- A random player ID (so you can rejoin a room and keep your seat).
- The display name you type in.
- Your favourite games, and a few preferences (e.g. dismissed notices).
You can clear all of this any time by clearing your browser data for this site.
What we send to our server
When you create or join a room, your random player ID, display name and in-game actions (moves, chat messages, reactions) are sent to our game server so your partner can see them in real time. A room's state — including its chat — is saved so it survives a brief disconnect or a server restart. Idle rooms are cleared from memory after about a day and deleted from storage after about a week.
Photos you uploadfor a Jigsaw Puzzle are shrunk on your device, then sent to our server and shared only with the other player in that room. They're kept with the room and deleted along with it (within about a week). Only upload photos you're happy to share with your partner and have the right to use.
Your game history. When a game finishes we record the result — the game, both players' display names and player IDs, the winner, a short score summary and the time — so the History page can show your record. These results are kept until you clear them: Reset historyon the History page hides every result so far from your view (your partner's own history isn't affected). We also keep a record of each player ID with its latest display name and when it was last seen.
Please don't put sensitive personal information into display names or chat — treat chat as visible to the person you're playing with.
Analytics
We use privacy-friendly, aggregated analytics (Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights) to understand overall traffic and performance. These do not use tracking cookies and do not build an advertising profile of you.
Word look-ups
When you open a word's definition, your browser looks the word up directly with Free Dictionary API and, if needed, Wikipedia's Wiktionary — so those services see the word and your IP address, as with any website. Example sentences are fetched by our server from Tatoeba, so Tatoeba only sees the word. No player details are sent with these look-ups.
Cookies
Parlour does not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. We rely on your browser's local storage for the functional items listed above. If we ever introduce anything that requires consent, we'll ask first.
Feedback you send
If you use the feedback form, we receive the message you write, an optional contact you provide, and your player ID and display name, so we can act on it and follow up.
Children and mature content
Parlour is intended for a general audience. Some optional question packs are marked 18+ and are only enabled when a player confirms everyone playing is an adult.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy from time to time; the date at the top will change. For example, if we ever add advertising we'll update this page first. Questions, or want something deleted? Email parlourgamesgg@gmail.com.
