How to play 8-Ball Pool
Goal: Pot all of your group — solids (1–7) or stripes (9–15) — then sink the 8-ball to win.
Shooting: Press on the table, pull back away from the cue ball to build power, and release. Let go without pulling back to cancel.
Groups: The table stays open after the break — the first ball potted after that decides who's solids and who's stripes. Pot one of your own and you shoot again; otherwise the turn passes.
Fouls: Sinking the cue ball (a scratch), hitting nothing, or hitting the wrong ball first (your opponent's group, or the 8 before your group is cleared) is a foul — your opponent gets "ball in hand" and places the cue ball anywhere on the table.
The 8-ball: Sinking it on the break just puts it back on its spot. After that it's only legal once your group is cleared — potting it early, or fouling as you pot it, loses the game.
